In March and April 2002 ACB Radio Interactive and Serotek Corporation entered into a joint promotion to give listeners several chances to bring someone not computer savvy online. Serotek chose to partner with ACB Radio Interactive to give listeners the chance of winning over $1500 of Serotek products. For decades we have all dreamed of a computer that we could simply talk to and it would do what we ask. Now it exists and is called the Freedom Box. A lucky few ACB Radio Interactive listeners, their families and friends, had several chances of winning one of three Freedom Box packages donated by Serotek Corporation. The Freedom Box from Serotek is a revolutionary new product which allows a user full access to the Internet just by using their voice. The Freedom Box software can connect to a users’ favourite Web sites and turn all the links on the page into simple voice commands. This is particularly advantageous for many people with disabilities who have difficulty in using: a computer keyboard, mouse, operating system or expensive and often confusing adaptive technology. Listeners to ACB Radio Interactive got their names in a draws by sending email to freedom@acbradio.org when they heard the Freedom Box login sound immediately followed by a song with the word “Freedom” in the title. 3 packages were up for grabs: 2 software packages which can turn any modern Internet-ready computer into a Freedom Box, plus 1 state-of-the-art Freedom Box Standalone Edition which was given away in mid April. ACB Radio Interactive and Serotek Corporation wanted very much to bring someone not computer savvy online. If the winner of a Freedom Box standalone edition, were to donate the box to an offline friend or family member, Serotek would throw in an extra Freedom Box software package for the original winner completely free! The ACB Radio Interactive Megabyte Contest Congratulations to Steve Nomer from Whichita, Kansas who won the AMD 900MHZ Desktop Computer! Congratulations, and thanks to everyone who entered, and thanks for making the Megabyte a very successful promotion for ACBRI! Thanks to the dozens of people who participated in the ACB Radio Interactive Megabyte contest for that free 900MHZ desktop computer system from JGM Affordable Computers, affordable computers for less. In March 2001, we conducted our first ever on-air contest for real prizes in association with Mindunwind.com. All listeners of the Internet Party Radio show who Emailed a request to the DJ were entered into a weekly drawing for a free CD from Mind Unwind. Chris Scarstad was our first ever ACB Radio Interactive Contest winner.
